Rook, Rhyme & Sinker by Michael Phillips

Rook, Rhyme & Sinker is a marvelous mystery novel and Michael Phillips is the reason why! Michael drops us right into the drama as a dead body is found in Regent's Canal. The dead man's wallet and watch is missing, track marks are found on the body suggesting drug use, and a suicide note has been found. The hair on the back of my neck was already standing on page one. The story is quite chilling as mystery, intrigue and darkness clouds fill the atmosphere.

"Despite one's desire to end their life,... most people have the involuntary reaction to preserve it, especially in the water. Drowning is not a first choice for those opting to off themselves..."

Rook, Rhyme & Sinker is a thrilling tale and excellently written. The story is rich with descriptive details that make the story come alive, like a 3D movie, all around you. There is movement... life in these pages that will captivate your curiosity. The conversation between the characters flowed smoothly, making this book very easy to read and fall into. You can feel the warmth of the crackling fire in the fireplace and see the texture of the long trench coat the detective wears. Rook, Rhyme & Sinker is a true mystery. Every character played their roles so well, the clues were revealed timely and, most importantly, I was not able to guess the ending.
